In the past, disaster relief and recovery in North America has been overlooked for aid to foreign nations. However, as illustrated by the events surrounding Hurricane Katrina in 2005, there are many in need in our own backyard. We feel that the resources of the church body, through the empowering of the Holy Spirit, can be a helping hand in times of disaster for those in need in our community and in our country.
In the aftermath of Katrina, CCC began working with Samaritan's Purse (a nondenominational evangelical Christian organization) in Mississippi to help with recovery and reconstruction efforts there. Since that time dozens of volunteers from CCC have served with Samaritan's Purse in Louisianna, Texas, North Carolina, and Alabama. Our ongoing intent is to focus on areas of disaster relief, recovery and reconstruction as needs arise and God calls men and women from our church body.
CCC has aligned with Samaritan's Purse in these efforts to support their stated mission of, "... providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world. Since 1970, Samaritan's Purse has helped meet the needs of people who are victims of war, poverty, natural disasters, disease, and famine with the purpose of sharing God's love through His Son, Jesus Christ."
